Beyond The Hashtag

On October 15, 2017, survivors across the world raised their voices, reigniting a global movement, and our world hasn’t been the same since. On the fourth anniversary of #MeToo going viral, me too. International is reflecting on the change that the hashtag has spurred, and inviting everyone to take the next steps in creating a world free from sexual violence. What is #BeyondTheHashtag?

The anniversary of the hashtag is an opportunity to drive home the message that me too. International is an organization that centers survivors, reaffirms collective healing and action, and legitimizes the global conversation around sexual and gender-based violence as a threat to public safety everywhere.

#BeyondTheHashtag is more than a theme, but a call to action as we recognize that the work of the movement existed before and continues to exist beyond #MeToo.

From October 15 through October 22, we are celebrating the movement’s past and present with events that cultivate joy and wellness into the path forward.

  • Friday, October 15: Live with ‘me too.’
    me too. International will be celebrating the 4th anniversary of #MeToo, with the ‘me too.’ staff discussing what this moment continues to mean for survivor justice and how we go #BeyondTheHashtag. Watch live from Instagram @metoomvmt.
  • Thursday, October 21: ‘me too.’ Global in Context
    We will announce our latest initiative in partnership with Global Fund for Women, while highlighting the work of global movement leaders. me too. International CEO, Dani Ayers, will moderate this panel discussion about the nuances of building movement to interrupt sexual and gender based violence across borders.
