me too. International’s Statement on the Sean “Diddy” Combs Verdict

For Immediate Release
July 2, 2025

Don’t Let the Verdict Overshadow the Message: The ‘me too.’ Movement Made This Possible

The verdict in the case against Sean “Diddy” Combs is reverberating across the country, and around the world. And while no single verdict defines our Movement, we understand why this one may feel different. It is part of a broader shift, where more people are willing to name injustice when they see it, to acknowledge inhumanity for what it is, and to hold people in power accountable, even when institutions and laws still lag behind.

We know what we saw.

We heard the stories.

We witnessed the harm.

As an organization and global Movement rooted in truth-telling and bearing witness, we know that no single verdict, no matter how significant, can fully repair the harm or represent the totality of what survivors have endured. What it can do, and what this one has done, is remind the world of the power of being seen, supported and heard, after years of silence or disbelief.

And while there will surely be headlines and op-eds about how #metoo is dead, it should not go unstated that: this moment would not exist without the ‘me too.’ Movement.

It is because of this survivor-led movement that survivors across industries, communities, and generations have found the language, the courage, and the support to come forward. It is because of this movement that the public has learned how to listen, and institutions have begun to take survivors seriously.

We are witnessing accountability — however imperfect — because the groundwork was laid by survivors who told their stories when no one wanted to hear them.

That fact should not be lost in this moment.

To the brave survivors and witnesses who spoke out: we see your courage. Speaking truth to power, especially against those protected by wealth, influence, and institutional silence, is no small act. It is world-shifting. It is life-risking. And it is the heartbeat of this Movement.

This moment matters, not because it marks an end, but because it continues to pull public consciousness forward. Verdicts may capture headlines, but it’s the act of witnessing and truth-telling that fuels cultural change. And that truth, once spoken, cannot be unsaid.

Our Movement was never built on the outcomes of courtrooms alone. It was built on the truth-telling of survivors. It was built on the unwavering belief that everyone deserves safety, dignity, and care. And it was built on the courage of those who speak out, even when the odds are stacked against them.

This Movement will continue to fight for the kind of world where no one has to suffer in silence. A world where survivors are heard, supported, and resourced to heal. A world where accountability doesn’t hinge on celebrity, power, or proximity to privilege, but on our shared commitment to community care and collective responsibility.

To every survivor watching this unfold and wondering if their pain will ever be acknowledged: this Movement holds you. Your truth matters. You matter.

We are bearing witness. We are naming harm. We are not going back.
