Beyond The Hashtag
On October 15, 2017, survivors across the world raised their voices, reigniting a global movement, and our world hasn’t been the same since. On the fourth anniversary of #MeToo going viral, me too. International reflected on the change that the hashtag spurred, and invited everyone to take the next steps in creating a world free from sexual violence. We invite you to continue celebrating with us in going #BeyondTheHashtag—take action to disrupt rape culture today.
What is #BeyondTheHashtag?
The anniversary of the hashtag was an opportunity to drive home the message that me too. International is an organization that centers survivors, reaffirms collective healing and action, and legitimizes the global conversation around sexual and gender-based violence as a threat to public safety everywhere.
#BeyondTheHashtag is more than a theme, but a call to action as we recognize that the work of the movement existed before and continues to exist beyond #MeToo.

We announced our latest initiative in partnership with Global Fund for Women, while highlighting the work of global movement leaders. me too. International CEO, Dani Ayers, moderated this panel discussion about the nuances of building movement to interrupt sexual and gender based violence across borders. To close the 4th anniversary, we held a day of celebration with joy, art, yoga, and a dance party! The day featured a Morning Meditation, Afternoon Concert, and Evening Ceremony & Closing Party that grounded us in the legacy of survivor justice advocates and showcased artistry that advances the movement to end sexual violence.
