Thriver’s Quest: Healing life’s traumas to bring out your best
M.E. Hart, Liberty Partners Press, Self-help
Within each chapter are poems reflecting the aforementioned topics. These poems act as a guide for the reader and hopefully will prompt the reader to write their own poem surrounding the topic provided. Mr. Hart’s poetry is honest, heartfelt and compelling, thus opening the reader up for the second part of the healing process, which is presented in workbook form. According to Mr. Hart, “Thoughts and feelings can seem chaotic when we are at the beginning of a healing journey; so I developed a simple system for writing poems called: The MiniQuest Writing Process. The three MiniQuest steps are: The Call, The Quest and The Return.”
The Call is simply a thought or question that sparks one to try to understand. The Quest is writing down your response and the Return is going back to the poem and trying to gain a deeper understanding.
What makes this book so outstanding is it doubles as a workbook/journal to get the reader thinking about his or her personal abuses and ways to write about them, by answering the Call, Quest and Return responses that apply to the reader’s own story/poetry.
The audience for this book is men. Its content makes it a unique offering and worthy of recommendation. Sexual assaults on males are and have always been prevalent. However, too many men have allowed fear and shame to prevent them from revealing their truth, especially Black men. This book will equip any person, particularly men, with innovative and effective ways to face their truth and thrive.
