LOVE T.A.P.S. (Love That Assaults, Pollutes & Scars)
Ce Anderson, M.S. Associate Licensed Counselor, Ce Publishing, LLC, Self-Help
This book should be required reading in health and sociology classes for high school and college students. Love T.A.P.S equips the reader with clinical, as well as practical, insight needed to understand and spot the mindset and actions of an abuser. Anderson repeatedly explains that abuse is not solely physical, but also sexual, financial, emotional, psychological, and spiritual, to name a few. As a licensed therapist, the author offers clinical, medical, and psychological perspectives through in-depth and foundational data into the causes for becoming an abuser and the impact abuse has on its victims.
Secondly, each chapter exudes a mastery on its subject matter, all while presented in a manner that non-clinicians can understand. Anderson presents the hard truths that some abuse victims need to hear in order to jolt them into choosing life rather than abuse and potential death. In Chapter 14, titled “Barriers to Leaving,” she states: “Some victims decide to stay solely because their family will look down upon them for leaving and some have actually been told, ‘It can’t be that bad, stay, don’t give up.’ The truth is that your family can either HELP YOU PACK or HELP PLAN YOUR FUNERAL SERVICE!”
What adds to the book’s depth, intensity, and efficaciousness is the author’s way of leaving the reader with hope, along with sound exit strategies. Anderson truthfully and professionally captures the essence of the abused as well as the abuser.
